Colby Chester
Colby Chester has been an avid photographer for much of his life, working in both 35mm and medium format. Influenced by the work of 20th Century's masters such as Walker Evans, Paul Strand and later, Henri Cartier-Bresson, it was the Sierra Club publication of Eliot Porteris seminal work,
In Wildness Is The Preservation of the World, that galvanized his interest in landscape photography. He moved into the digital format a few years ago, and uses it almost exclusively now. His images have been published in literary journals and art magazines, among them the
Seattle Review, and the recently published British release,
Developing Vision & Style: A Master Class In Landscape Photography. His photographs have been exhibited at Benham Gallery and Photo Center Northwest in Seattle, as well as Starbucks and several restaurants.
Mr. Chester is actively involved in environmental issues, both locally and internationally, using his photography as an instrument for advocacy whenever possible. He currently makes his home in Seattle and Ayzieu, France.
